Location of Tu Duc Tomb

Tu Duc Tomb is located in a narrow valley 8 km from Hue  (Thuong Ba village, Thuy Xuan Commune), 15 minutes by using Hue private cars, and 25 minutes by using Hue motorbike rental. This is the final resting place of Emperor Tu Duc who had the longest reign of all emperors of The Nguyen dynasty. This place is considered as the most beautiful and impressive designed complexes among the tombs of Nguyen dynasty.

History of Tu Duc Tomb

Tu Duc tomb had been built from 1864 to 1867 by Emperor Tu Duc when he was alive. At first, it was named as Van Nien Co, After that changed its name into Khiem Cung. Finally, when the King died, people call it Khiem Lang or Tu Duc that you know today.

Structure and composition of the Tomb of Tu Duc

This architectural complex covers 12 hectares of surface, and there are over 50 buildings in its interior. Inside the imperial tomb, there are two major areas: The area of the temples and the area of the graves. Besides, the royal mausoleum is surrounded by hundreds of stone, creating a wall to protect it. You can access this structure by the door Vu Khiem on the southeast.

Behind Tu Duc tomb, we can see the Empress Le Thien Anh tomb and of the nephew and adopted sons of Tu Duc, as well as the tomb of Emperor Kien Phuc.

This structures recognized as one of 100  famous a-hundred-year structures in Vietnam by Vietnam record association.Beside, Khiem Cung Ky - A stone stele engraved with an essay written by the King in Tu Duc tomb is the biggest stele of 20-tonne stone tablet, and it is considered as the national precious object.
